On Monday, July 24, 2017, the Llano Community Theatre board of directors met to discuss a number of items on the Agenda. There was still excitement in the air  from the success of "Big Bad" a few weeks ago. The biggest thing that happened during the meeting was setting the date for the next play. We are scheduling 6 performances of "Over The River and Through the Woods", at this time set for October 27, 28. & 29, and November 3, 4, & 5. Auditions will be held on August 29 and 31 with Cheryl Crabtree directing.
Rickie also mentioned having another acting class for adults and a director symposium, where actors and directors work on planned scripts and improvisation. We are looking for a permanent home for the theatre, and hope to get that lined up soon. Stay tuned for more posts from our crew, directors, and actors. The arts are alive and well in Llano, TX.

Courtroom Antics With the Big Bad Wolf
article in the Llano News by Briley Mitchell
He is known throughout Fairytale land, he blew down two of the Three Little Pigs homes, he was accused of eating sheep by the boy that cried wolf, and had the audacity of eating Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother. Now there is a class action lawsuit against him and the trial was held in a makeshift courtroom in Llano, Texas located in the Llano Junior High Auditorium. “Big Bad” the latest production of the Llano Community Theatre, happened this weekend to three of the largest audiences the theatre group has had.

Covered by ENN, Enchanted Forest Network, and the ever popular reporter Sydney Grimm, portrayed by Kari Miller, the trial takes place in Judge Wise Old Man’s (Mike Hazel) courtroom. The jury, those in the audience, will decide the fate of the Big Bad Wolf, whether he will go free or sent to jail. The first witness to take the stand is Little Red Riding Hood, (Megan Ceynowa), who informs the judge and jury of her encounter with the defendant, and watching him eat her grandmother. After her testimony with the prosecuting attorney, the Fairy Godmother (Connie Turner), Red is too sad to be cross examined by the Wolf’s attorney, the Evil Stepmother (Lisa Rogers), and leaves the stand. Up next to testify as a witness to the prosecution is Grandma Hood, (Cheryl Crabtree on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, and on Saturday night, Crystal Ceynowa) who told of her time inside the belly of the Big Bad Wolf. The cross examination by the Evil Stepmother was brutal, leaving some unexplained matters concerning the night of the attack. The last witness called before a TV Timeout, was Bill Woodcutter (Lance Moran) who came to the rescue of Red and her Grandma from the stomach of the defendant. His story was one of a hero that bravely fought the beast to save the Hoods, but under the examination of the defense, it was evident his motives were not so honorable being at Grandma’s house. He was there to steal a homemade pie from the window because being a woodcutter didn’t pay well, and his try as “most ruggedly handsome woodsman” had not quite paid off yet.
As recess came, ENN took time for some commercials that were as cute as the play, written by Summer Vaught who also played as Shepherdess, the mother of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. The trial resumes with the Three Little Pigs (Gunner Todd, Andy Gilliland, and Natalie Rogers) taking the witness stand together, because One, pronounced “Ohnae” and Two, pronounced “Twoe” were not the smartest pigs in the pen. Once again, the prosecution did an amazing job examining the witnesses, but when it was time for the Evil Stepmother to do her part, things seemed to unravel for the Fairy Godmother. The next witnesses, the Shepherdess, and her son (Dusty Miller), the Boy Who Cried Wolf, had to describe the third day he cried wolf, without mentioning the other two days when there really wasn’t a wolf.
It was now time for the defense to call her witnesses, Miss Muffit (Colette Todd), that was just not comfortable without her tuffit, whatever that is. And finally, the defendant took the stand, where he confessed to all the crimes but gave a sad story of his life that turned him into the beast he had become. In a strange turn of events, after telling how his family had adopted a human baby, that was later returned to her family, Miss Muffit told the wolf she was that baby, hugs and laughter were shared by all.
Judge Wise Old Man then came center stage to address the jury, it was their job to decide the innocence or guilt (spelled with a G) of the defendant. What makes this play so much fun, there are two endings the actors have to memorize, and that ending depends on the applause of the audience. On Friday night, the Big Bad Wolf was found innocent, but on Saturday, both performances, he was found guilty as charged.
The Llano Community Theatre is beginning its third season, and has hopefully found a new home at Llano Junior High School. The troupe is on Facebook and also has a website, llanocommunitytheatre.org, keep up with all the performances at either location.
